西部豬鼻蛇因其像豬一樣上翹的吻端而得名，是北美洲最受歡迎的寵物蛇之一。牠們也是著名的「影帝」，遇到威脅時會上演誇張的裝死戲碼。
- 原生於北美洲大平原，吻端特化成鏟狀，便於在沙地中挖掘。
Native to North American plains; possesses a specialized upturned snout (rostral scale) for burrowing. - 遭遇威脅時會像眼鏡蛇一樣撐開頸部發出嘶聲，若無效則會翻肚「裝死」。
Defends by flattening its neck and hissing; if that fails, it dramatically plays dead (thanatosis). - 屬於「後溝牙」微毒蛇類，毒性對人類極低（類似蜜蜂螫），主要用於麻痺獵物。
Rear-fanged venomous; venom is mild (comparable to a bee sting) and intended for subduing toad prey. - 體型小巧粗壯，雄性成體約 40-50cm，雌性約 60-80cm，非常適合居家飼養。
Small to medium size; males reach 40-50cm, females 60-80cm, making them manageable pets. - 主要以兩棲類（蟾蜍）為食，人工飼養已馴化吃冷凍鼠，但偶爾會挑食。
Feeds on amphibians in the wild; captive bred individuals eat mice, though can be picky eaters. - 適宜溫度：熱點 30–32 °C，冷區 24 °C；喜愛乾燥環境，需厚墊材供挖掘。
Requires a basking spot of 30–32 °C and a dry environment with deep substrate for burrowing. - 性格多變，平時溫和呆萌，但肚子餓或受驚時動作會變得誇張。
Variable personality; generally docile and cute, but can be dramatic when hungry or startled.
