The Night Guardian of the Walls

The Tokay Gecko is one of the world’s largest and most vividly colored geckos. Native to Southeast Asia and South China, it is known for its bluish-gray or turquoise skin patterned with bright orange spots. Selective breeding has produced various color morphs, giving each individual its own unique hue and texture. Active at night and resting by day, it uses its powerful adhesive toes to climb walls effortlessly.

Care and Behavior

• Preferred Temperature: 27–32°C (80–90°F) by day, not below 24°C (75°F) at night; humidity 60–80%.
• Diet: Insects, small rodents, and bird eggs.
• Temperament: Alert, territorial, and intelligent; forms trust with consistent handling and calm environments. Activity: Nocturnal active at night, resting during the day on walls or branches.

Tokay Geckos possess exceptional night vision. Their vertical-slit pupils adjust precisely to light intensity, allowing sharp focus even in dim environments. Studies show they can remember feeding times and preferred spots, demonstrating spatial learning ability. Their toes are covered in microscopic setae that generate van der Waals forces, enabling them to cling to smooth surfaces a biological marvel inspiring modern adhesive technologies.
